A feeling of slow page load

This topic has been marked as not a support question.

Hi,

I have a feeling that page loads quite slowly, so started investigating.

So far:
- disabled product count for categories (even though I have about 20 of them and roughly 200 products).

- contacted technical support of hosting provider.

While analyzing the page with google page speed, have come accross to:

http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jquery/1.6.4/jquery.min.js
http://ajax.googleapis.com/ajax/libs/jqueryui/1.8.16/jquery-ui.min.js

Could you please advise, what are these files? And cannot they be hosted on my server? Or it does not make any sense in terms of page speed?

Thank you very much!

D

Some further investigations (based on webpagetest.org):
- shoppica theme adds another second or so for the page to load.
- file PIE.php takes some time to process. Could you please advise what does this file do?

Hi,

You could host the jquery and jqueryui, if you want. We use google CDN for better performance. You can read more on the topic here and here.

The PIE is a compatibility fix for IE7&8. The good thing is that it loads only for these two browsers.

Generally, it is normal that Shoppica add some load time compared with the default OpenCart theme. We add a lot of features, after all :)

P.S. Sometimes the twitter widget slows the website, but we will figure something out in the next versions.

Thanks for the constructive feedback. Will take care of speed for sure in the future :)

Best,
Svetoslav

Hi Svetoslav,

thank you very much for your kind feedback. You are right – it is quite logical to host the above mentioned JS at Google’s CDN servers.

These days I was doing some testing and still see that the whole site sometimes goes really slow. Discussions with hosting provider did not lead anywhere.

Therefore I have a kind request to you – is it possible that you, as an expert, have a look at my website to give me a hint in which direction I should further dig and investigate? Or may be my concerns about slowness of page load are too subjective :-)

Thank you!

BR,
D.
