Adding Categories to Main Menu through Admin (vQmod Extension)

ThemeBurn SupportForumsOpenCart ThemesShoppica 2 OpenCart ThemeAdding Categories to Main Menu through Admin (vQmod Extension)

This topic has been marked as not a support question.

I know we can customize the main menu by editing the template file. However, I absolutely need the ability to do this through admin because coding is not an option for the user.

I’ve used the following extension successfully on previous opencart installations:
http://www.opencart.com/index.php?route=extension/extension/info&extension_id=15906

The extension adds a “Link to the page” field to the Catalog > Categories admin settings and allows you to add a category that simply links to whatever URL you input.

I am trying to use this extension in Shoppica 2 and all the categories are linking to product list pages. I imagine it’s because the menu is custom rather than the default opencart menu.

Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you.

We are sorry about the huge delay of our response, but your question was out of the support scope (a third party extension problem). Although we always try to help to adapt popular extensions, or at least give some basic guidelines, we have busy periods and the response times may vary (as stated in our support policy).

Again, sorry for the inconvenience, we’ll be glad if we could assist you further.

Best regards,

Dear ThemeBurn Support,

I greatly appreciate your reply.

Your theme is very nice but now I am wondering if I will continue to have difficulties using other extensions. Had I known your theme utilized so much customization outside of the opencart core, I would have reconsidered purchasing it because a big part of the appeal of using an open source platform like this is the ability to use open source extensions. If it’s necessary to edit the code every time I want to use a third party extension, that undermines one of the main strengths of opencart.

Having said that, I understand that you were not obligated to find a solution for a third party plugin. I sincerely appreciate your time and effort.

Regarding the delay of your support, I wasn’t expecting a full answer immediately. The issue is that I wasn’t even sure my support inquiry was heard. A courtesy reply would have gone a long way.

Thank you again for your help.

@i2WebSolution,

we completely agree that not supplying information about the status of your issue so long is not a good customer experience. We’ll take appropriate steps to prevent this from happening again.

The issue with the theme modification and the compatibility with third party extensions is discussed many times in our support forum. If you check the official opencart forums, you’ll see that this appears to be a general theme problem, not only a Shoppica one. The opencart theme structure has limited extensibility and prevents the theme developers form adding advanced features. That essentially places us (I mean all theme developers) at a disadvantage to make a trade off between theme functionality and compatibility.

We worked very hard to achieve maximum compatibility and we state that Shoppica is compatible with the most extensions on the opencart marker. We try to help everyone with integrating extensions but we just cannot spent hours for every customer extension as this is free support after all.

We are not proud of your disappointment and we’ll be glad to hear from you again.

Best Regards,
ThemeBurn team
