blurry images

I have installed this theme as per instructions but the images on the home page (latest, etc.) are very blurry. They aren’t on other themes. I have changed the image sizes as per instructions but still they are unacceptably ‘out of focus’. is this a known issue or could you suggest something that might remidy this?
