changing background colour of product images small and main

Hi I want to change the white background of all my product thumbnail images (in category view and main image) from white to a grey to match the site background. I have tried adding custom css but nothing seems to change it! Can you advise please how/where I can change these please? The site is http://www.pocketwalks.com/dev/shop Thanks J	poppydesign
