Shoppica OpenCart – Facebook Widget Patch

Hi,

For everybody experiencing problems with the Facebook widget, here is a brief explanation of the situation.

In order to have a styled widget, Shoppica have used an old version of the Facebook Like Box – the Facebook Fanbox code. This old version allowed external styles to be applied to the widget elements.

Unfortunately, everything ended a few weeks ago. Facebook started to serve their new code that doesn’t allow external resources to be loaded and that is why the like box lost its “sexy look”. A little bit after this dramatic change (1-2 weeks), the old code and styling started to work again. This time however, the like button didn’t seem to work.

That is why we decided to add an option to choose between the two widget styles: fanbox (with Shoppica styling in case it still works) and likebox (default Facebook widget style).

The new widget is already available with the latest Shoppica, which you can download from your ThemeForest account. We have also attached a patch for those that cannot fully upgrade their theme.

IMPORTANT
Before uploading the files from the patch, be sure to compare the included screen.css.php (screen.css for Shoppica 1) with yours, in case you have modified it before.

Best,
ThemeBurn team

How to install this into wordpress theme ?

With this being posted in the wordpress section, is there a way to incorporate this patch into the wordpress version, or will a different patch come out to fix all the facebook silliness?

An update for the WordPress version will be soon available.

Themeburn,

I have noticed that the Like button works when not logged into facebook, but then it stops working when I am. Could this be a hint to finding a solution to this problem? Surely, if it can be shown it works in this way, the phenomenon can be replicated and applied to the code so that it works when logged in.

Just a suggestion.

Hope you can find a permanent solution.

D

Hi,

1)
I updated the patch recently and everything was running smooth. Looks like Facebook changed their code again? I dont get the shoppica fan box anymore but the original FB box.

2)
If i switch to the like box in the module. The themeburn FB fans like box appears? Altough i use my own fb page id number or name…

Any idea

I can confirm that the FB Widget css doesn’t work anymore.

@kamyabi

You should resave your theme settings.

@jeffalexander
@apollosk

Yes, the facebook fanbox has been changed again and for the moment you should stick to the like box. The like box will use the facebook page instead of ID.

Re-saving was the first thing after upgrade to 2.2.2. Again after changing to “Like Box” I saved the setting.
It doesn’t fix the issue for me.
