Solid Color Menu Category and Featured Line with Black Background

Hi,

I would like my current menu (attached image) to have the solid black background with white font. When you hover over it, I want the color to change. I can select the COLOR change when hover, but I cannot get the solid black background, how can I do this?

Additionally,

I would like to have my ‘Featured’ items on homepage to look similar. I have attached an image of what I would like to do. Please help with this.

OK; thanks for the CSS style script for the menu header.

I have another few question on this —

1. How can I space out the menu the way it is in ‘new menu’ so it goes evenly across the whole menu line? It is currently spaced together and not looking great.

2. As well as the adjustment of the hover colour – when I hover over the icon it changes color to white and does not go back to black when I stop hovering. I want it to be able to be:

Black with white font when page loads. If I hover over icon, it changes to green, and if I remove cursor from button it TURNS BACK TO BLACK. It currently is not doing this.
