Hi,

Can you tell me if latest version of Shoppica has been tested yet with a clean install of v.1.5.2.1?

Thanks

Hi,

Yes, it has been test and it doesn’t work correctly. We have made an update however and hopefully, it will be ready for download later today or tomorrow.

OK,

Thanks for letting me know.

I had some major problems installing Shoppica with OpenCart v1.5.1.1 that were documented here…

http://forum.opencart.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=40021

I have now done a clean install of OpenCart v.1.5.2.1 and would like to re-apply a working updated Shoppica Theme to my new install to see if this remedies the problems.

My problems seemed to centre around my category structure and discussions on the OpenCart support forums appeared to suggest that Shoppica was at fault for lengthy page load times.

Can you please tell me.

1. Is the new update due in the next few days likely to remedy these problems?
2. Is there a new v2.0 of Shoppica due in February as rumoured?
3. Should I wait for this update instead?

Please advise.

If I cannot get Shoppica working fully for my store with the latest version of OpenCart as intended, I may need to request a refund and try an alternative template.

I would very much like to use Shoppica so hopefully you are aware of the problems I am having and are taking steps to fix them.

Regards

Hi,

I confirm that Shoppica causes the slower response time of your site due to your heavy category structure. This problem appears only with too many nested categories and it seems your are the only one with so much categories (thousands) till now. That’s why we didn’t attempt to fix this edge-case issue for Shoppica 1.x. We can’t use the opencart cached categories when building our menu, because of the code limitations in opencart. A lot of code rewrite is required, which would cause hard times for most of the users when trying to upgrade.

The good news is that we did this for Shoppica 2.0. I can confirm, we have rewritten the category fetching logic and its a lot more faster now. The Shoppica 2.0 was about to be release in February but we have delayed the release for April in order to provide more features and more testing. I am pretty sure 2.0 will fix your performance issues. After the 2.0 release, we are going to build a list with the opencart plugins that are tested and 100% compatible with Shoppica 2.0.

Thank you for your patience.

Hi,

I have now upgraded my installation to the latest version of opencart and latest version of Shoppica, it has virtually killed my websites. I am still having major speed problems at http://www.footystuff.co.uk

u: demo
p: demo123

I also keep getting ‘Server Error’ messages.

Why is this the case?

I have now tried 3-4 versions of BOTH OpenCart and Shoppica. Why is it taking so long for someone to resolve this issue with nested category structures? It is fundamentally a basic requirement of e-commerce stores. Magento has no such problems and if I remove the Shoppica theme, the problems go away.

Please advise

Please can you email me directly (you should have my netsultant.co.uk address) and I will reply with admin access for you to test the theme and see for yourself the extent to which page load time is degraded as soon as Shoppica is applied.

I can also provide you with DB dump if required.

I’ve been very patient and will happily help you to debug but I really hoped it would have been fixed by now.

If you cannot help me to resolve this issue within the next 60 days, I will sadly have to ask for a refund.

Hi,

we already sent you an email on May 11, 2012 with an experimental shoppica cache plugin, which improves the site performance with large database a lot. We didn’t get any feedback from you though.
We want to inform you that the performance of Shoppica2 matches the default opencart performance very closely as we reduced the overhead to the best possible minimum. We did make tests with the sql dump you sent a while ago and the difference with the default opencart theme is minimal – the overhead Shoppica 2 adds is below 5%.

We sent you another email with updated cache extensions. Our tests show that performance gain from these extensions is significant – Shoppica 2 outperforms opencart with more than 30%. Please, try them with Shoppica 2 and send us a feedback.
