Custom module on footer section

Is it possible to add a custom column on the footer_nav section? At the moment there four columns, I would like to replace or add a new column there. Is possible to add a custom contact us section as one of the sections? I know I can edit the footer.tpl, if I want to add a new column but how can I add the translation in footer.tpl if I have multiple languages?	moonlighthk
