How do related products work? (What attributes need to be set to make products related?)

Hi, I have the gold cart plugin and I see related products come up. My question is how do I make the decision as to what products are related? Thanks!	proaudiodvds

Is there a way of making the related products work on a tag basis? My client is a designer and so she wants to control which shirt will fit to a specific necklace or pants for example. Right now it only chooses the same category? Thanks Guy	oneguy

After playing with some products – I found that the related product are kind of random. Each time I refresh the page – other products come up…. I didn’t see any consistency in having the product in the same category or having the same tag… How does this system work and can I control manually or in any other way – which products will appear there?
