Modules not working with Shoppica and a guide to making them work

ThemeBurn SupportForumsGeneralFeature RequestsModules not working with Shoppica and a guide to making them work

Hi,

I have a shop with a number of extra modules running on Opencart 1.5.1.3.1

Shoppica has just been installed and pretty much every single one of the modules is now broken. Either the layouts are wrong or things are showing up in the wrong place or just not showing up at all.

I understand that Shoppica is based on a different layout to the standard Opencart setup and due to this the designers of Shoppica wont help with making modules work as part of the free support (Although I personally think this is a bit unfair. The modules are all made for standard Opencart layouts and all work fine and it is the template that breaks everything. I think the methods should be rethought. Either make the template differently so it DOES work with other modules or offer more support making broken sites work again. Maybe offer to fix a limited number of modules that dont work as part of the price. I am sure for the designers updating modules to work wouldnt be too much of a hard task as they will have an exact understanding of how everything is put together.

Anyway, I am happy to try and modify any modules myself but I am not an experienced coder so can we please get a guide on how to make them work. There must be a general guideline to how Shoppica is put together and how existing Opencart modules can be adapted to work. I just need to know what code changes need to be made/what CSS class changes etc etc etc

Anything to help would be great as at the moment my store that was working fine and now a complete mess of broken pages.

My advice to anyone thinking of buying this template is to either use it “out the box” as it is or only use it on a modified store if you know how to update your modules to work or you are prepared to pay someone to make the changes.

I agree. I have installed the News CMS module that i paid $45 for but it’s pretty much unusable on shoppica and i don’t really know how to get started for the installation.

That said the shoppica theme out of the box is pretty darn good!

Can’t wait for the extra features on version 2.0! :)

The Shoppica theme is really good out the box, it would just be nice if it was more useable with the Opencart extensions that are available. There is SOO many excellent add ons to make Opencart a very powerful shopping system. Its almost like a trade off, on one hand you get a really nice theme but sacrifice other odd on features or settle for a more “normal” theme but can extend it as far as you want to go. I am starting to think the second option is the better one for me.

A number of the good designers are happy to adapt modules to work and offer excellent support, usually for free. I also find a lot of the not so good ones are next to impossible to contact and offer no support at all. I know the CMS module you are talking about, I was close to getting it myself. I have had modules from the same designer and I have always found him happy to help. Might be worth dropping him an email asking if he can adapt it to work with Shoppica. He is not always the quickest to reply to emails but I find he normally replies and is good at what he does. Hopefully he might be able to sort it out.

As for the other more “basic” modules can we please get some sort of guide on how to adapt layouts/code/css etc to work with Shoppica. It would be extremely helpful to me and I am sure extremely helpful to a lot of other people using Shoppica theme.

Thank you

I can’t help but agree… I have had more modules that haven’t worked that have, and the ones that do work only a few didn’t need any modification.

It really is something that should be addressed with either help given or a guide would be perfect.

I myself have thought of the tradeoff and that if I had known that things would be as difficult as they are would I have bought this theme?

The massive worry I have know is that when shoppica 2.0 comes out everything I have done and ALL the modules will fail.

To be honest i`m surprises there doesnt seem to be more relating to this issue on the forum. I would think it is quite a major problem that would affect the majority of Opencart users with the Shoppica theme.

The modules I have and want to use are layered navigation, option price updates, FAQ and blog systems, shipping insurance, special price discount % and a whole load of others. At the moment each of them is pretty much useless to me all the time I have this theme installed.

Something really needs to be done as to me it seems like a major flaw in what is otherwise an excellent template.

We are seriously addressing these issues with Shoppica 2.0.

The most problems with opencart plugins used with Shoppica are caused by the html markup. We’ve done deep changes (a complete rewrite actually) to the opencart default theme. It is virtually impossible to provide all of the Shoppica’s great features and keeping the default opencart markup, so every plugin that relies on the default opencart markup will have potential problems with Shoppica. This is mostly valid for the plugins that do visual modifications to the default theme (for example adding discount labels).

There is a good amount of plugins already compatible with Shoppica, but we will try to improve the situation. Even with 2.0 there sill will be plugins that won’t work flawlessly with Shoppica, but we try to build a list with compatible plugins. We’ll also try to contact the developers of the most popular plugins to help them improve the compatibility with Shoppica.

Thank you for staying with us.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply.

I have found most of the problems are to do with broken layouts. For example, layered navigation provides a “browse” page. This has no styling to it at all. All the products are just in a verticle line going down the page. The sort box/add to compare/wishlist links are not in the right place etc etc etc.

For the blog I am using (blog manager) the boxes are all in the wrong places and have the wrong styling.

The FAQ system has the same problem, it all seems to be related to the different CSS classes used in Shoppica.

I might be wrong as I am far from an expert and definitely not a coder, I am just learning best I can as I go. To me this is to do with CSS class and stlying issues. Is it possible to put together a basic guide for what CSS classes need to be changed in the module and where/what they need to be changed to. I am sure for a lot of people this could help.

couldn’t agree more. I too bought several plugins which are not compatible with the current shoppica and have all gone to waste. Any guide on how to style/minor code changes would be beneficial …

I have the Blog Manager as well, and the developer is trying to hard to get it to work with shoppica, after creating a new layout for it and have aligned all the modules to the right… so all the modules are on the left obviously…. I have pulled my hair out over this for the last few days.

I really want this to work but I have no idea how to get it too. :-(

So it seems a number of people would like some extra help getting modules to work.

Is there any update on this? We are not asking the TB to manually adapt all modules to work, we are asking for a detailed guide that will help your customers do it themselves. This would be extremely helpful and something I personally feel should have been done right from day one. If you rewrite the complete template so it wont work with modules that “should” work then surely one of the most important things is to help your customers still make use of the available modules.

Please update with a guide as soon as possible.

Thank you

My main problem with the Blog Manager is that I cannot get the modules for the blog to appear on the right of the page, I have set all of the modules to align right but they are stuck to the left, If I select align left the module disappears from the page.

If I had known things were this hard I know I would have never bought this theme, in fact I wish I hadn’t.

I should have known better that to take style over substance.

Thanks to the work of the developer of the blog module it now finally works with shoppica, it was a hard laborous process, and to be honest I was worried it would never work… Without the efforts of the developer who did not have to go to the lengths he did and the kind help from another shoppica user who had managed to install it.

Mizzy 28 as I have managed to get it working with the styling looking much better and having the modules on the blog home page, Please send me an email at klimskady @ gmail dot com (to try to prevent spam bots getting my email) and I will assist you in getting this working for you if I can.

Hi Klimskady,

I am pleased to hear you finally got this problem sorted out. I was about to post a similar thing to you when I noticed your message! It was not the developer of the blog module but another developer website I came across using Shoppica and a blog system. I emailed asking how he got the two working together and he kindly emailed me some updated files to fix the problems.

I was going to offer them to you but seems you now have it working aswell!

Funny how Theme Burn have gone rather quiet on this post, something is telling me they dont want to help with a guide to making modules work with this theme………….

Hi,

We will definitely expand the documentation with different examples. Generally, Shoppica has all the styles for layout (960 grid system), text (titles, lists, paragraphs), forms, and color shortcodes and everybody is able to use them for third party modules. This is what we are going to describe.

In all the cases, however, you will need to have at least php, html or css knowledge to adapt your extensions. Unfortunately, there is no universal way to do this.

Funny how Theme Burn have gone rather quiet on this post, something is telling me they dont want to help with a guide to making modules work with this themeā€¦

The last thing we want, is to keep Shoppica incompatible with other plugins and leave the users to solve their problems themselves. As you can see throughout the forums, we have helped with many not support issues.

I really hope, everybody understands that it is impossible to have so many features in a theme and have everything 100% compatible.

Best,
Svetoslav

I just bought this theme and have problem with some extension (select city, and shipment jne).
If i read this forum before, i should think twice before buy this theme.
Is that possible to get our money back or at least 50% since we can’t use your theme?
