Remove Link from Top Category in Main Menu

I would like to remove the links in my site’s main menu on the top categories and have just the child categories that show on hover be linked.

EG:

HOME | CAT A | CAT B
-sub1
-sub2

Apart from Home, I would like CAT A and CAT B not to be clickable, but sub1 and sub2 to be linked to the child categories.

I’m not too sure how to implement this, can anyone help?
