Hi,
I have a store with 6854 categories, 4242 products. A typical product appears in 30 sub categories. I have Shoppica 2.2.3 installed with OpenCart 1.5.5.1.
The site is running on a dedicated server with the following spec;
CPU: 1x Intel Xeon E3-1230 v2 @ 3.30GHz
Memory: 1x 8GB DDR3 ECC
Hard Drive: 2x 128GB SATA SSD RAID1
With Shoppica 2 theme enabled, the average page loading time is 1 minute.
With the theme disabled, (using the default opencart theme) the average loading time is 6 seconds.
Something seems to be going a miss, please could you advise?
I’ve seen a similar thread where people request a cache plugin, would this solve my problem?
Thank you in advance,
Craig

Hi Craig,
We have you on our Smart cache plugin list. It will help you a lot.
Just curious – do you think it’s realistic to have 7k categories in a shop ? I think amazon and ebay together don’t have so many.

Hi TB,
The difference from the plugin is incredible, great job.
Also ran the other queries to the database as you suggested.
I’m with you on the category front, but the client sells ink cartridges, toners and they are compatible with numerous brands, printers and printer models.
Would it be beneficial if I only had two layers of categories displayed in the navigation? Was thinking whether to remove the following from categories_item.tpl:
getCategorySubMenu($category); ?>
As for the results of the plugin, the site load has decreased from 1 minute to 3 seconds, can’t ask for more than that.
Thanks very much.

Happy to hear everything runs smoothly now
There should be no problems to remove this line, yes.
